Brought spectacularly to life by the late comedy genius Rik Mayall in The New Statesman, B’Stard was everything people claimed to dislike about politics—ruthlessly ambitious, shamelessly self-serving, utterly unprincipled and somehow endlessly entertaining. Every outrageous scheme, breathtaking betrayal and impossible escape from political disaster was delivered with Mayall’s trademark manic energy, creating one of British television’s greatest comic performances.

To generations of fans, Alan B’Stard became more than just a sitcom character. He was political satire distilled into one magnificent ego, cheerfully sacrificing friends, colleagues, family members and, on occasion, almost anyone else who happened to be standing between him and power. Corruption, hypocrisy, backstabbing and outrageous opportunism weren’t unfortunate side effects of politics—they were his campaign manifesto. Yet beneath the outrageous comedy lay an uncomfortable truth: B’Stard’s complete absence of shame often felt just close enough to reality to make viewers laugh… and occasionally wince.

Rik Mayall’s fearless performance remains the beating heart of the character. With unmatched comic timing, gleeful physical comedy and a wicked sense of mischief, Mayall transformed Alan B’Stard into one of Britain’s most memorable television creations. His portrayal ensured that even decades later, the character is still affectionately quoted whenever politics descends into scandal or self-interest.

Comic masterpiece or disturbingly accurate political documentary? Satirical monster or Westminster’s unofficial mascot? Whatever your opinion, Alan B’Stard remains one of television’s greatest anti-heroes, while Rik Mayall’s unforgettable performance stands as a lasting reminder that sometimes comedy tells the truth better than politics ever could.

Ideal for autographing and framing.

Limited Edition of 250.
