Taiwo Awoniyi has already written himself into modern Nottingham Forest history. Powerful, humble and wholehearted, the Nigerian striker arrived at the City Ground from Union Berlin in 2022 as Forest prepared for their long-awaited return to the Premier League. He came with a growing reputation from the Bundesliga, but it was in red that he produced the moments Forest fans will never forget.

Awoniyi’s first Premier League goal for the club came in a 1-0 win over West Ham, a perfect introduction to life at the City Ground. Even bigger moments followed. He scored the winner against former club Liverpool, then became central to Forest’s survival charge at the end of the 2022-23 season. His goal against Arsenal in May 2023 sealed a famous 1-0 victory and confirmed Forest’s Premier League status — one of the great City Ground afternoons of recent years.

On the pitch, Taiwo brings strength, intelligent movement and a natural striker’s instinct. He can occupy defenders, attack space, finish calmly and give Forest a focal point up front. Off the pitch, he is widely admired for his warmth, faith, smile and quiet dignity. His “God is the greatest” message captures something important about him: a player grounded by belief, gratitude and resilience.

Awoniyi has had to battle through setbacks, but that only adds to the affection supporters feel for him.
