Regular price £9.99

We have planned a retro 'Name & Number' series to mirror the popular one of our promotion winning Forest team. The latest player to join the illustrious ranks is none other than local boy Viv Anderson. Also available with the classic Red & White background too. Released on his 69th birthday.

Viv Anderson’s name is etched into both Nottingham Forest and English football history. Born in Nottingham in 1956, he rose from the city’s playing fields to become a trailblazer — the first Black footballer to represent England at senior level, earning his debut in 1978.

At Forest, Anderson was a cornerstone of Brian Clough’s era-defining side. A tall, athletic right-back with remarkable stamina and timing, he combined defensive resilience with attacking intent long before full-backs were expected to bomb forward. His overlapping runs and ability to link play gave Forest vital width during their extraordinary late-1970s success.

Anderson played a crucial role in Forest’s First Division title win in 1977–78 and both their European Cup triumphs in 1979 and 1980. His consistency, composure, and professionalism stood out in a team already overflowing with character. In high-pressure matches, Anderson was often the calmest presence on the pitch — dependable, disciplined, and decisive.

After leaving Forest, he enjoyed successful spells with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Sheffield Wednesday, winning domestic trophies and maintaining his England place under several managers. But it was his time under Clough that defined him — a Nottingham lad who helped take his hometown club to the pinnacle of European football, breaking barriers and setting standards that inspired generations to follow.
