Clive Rice - Notts CCC Legend - A3, A2, A1 or A0 Prints
Superb quality A3 art print featuring former Notts' favourite South African captain and all rounder Clive Rice.
Clive Rice was one of the most influential figures in Nottinghamshire's proud cricketing history, a magnificent all-rounder and inspirational captain whose leadership helped transform the county into one of the dominant forces in English cricket during the 1980s.
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Rice arrived at Trent Bridge in 1975, bringing an extraordinary combination of powerful batting, skilful seam bowling and fierce competitive determination. A natural leader with an uncompromising desire to win, he quickly became the driving force behind Nottinghamshire's resurgence, inspiring teammates and supporters alike.
His legendary partnership with fellow overseas star Sir Richard Hadlee became the cornerstone of Nottinghamshire's golden era. Appointed captain in 1979, Rice led the county to the 1981 County Championship, ending a 52-year wait for the title. Six years later, he repeated the achievement in spectacular fashion, guiding Nottinghamshire to the 1987 County Championship and NatWest Trophy double, one of the greatest seasons in the club's history.
Rice was far more than an outstanding captain. A formidable middle-order batsman capable of dominating attacks and a highly effective medium-fast bowler, he was among the finest all-rounders of his generation. His remarkable first-class career produced more than 26,000 runs and over 900 wickets, reflecting his extraordinary consistency and versatility.
Although South Africa's exclusion from international cricket during the apartheid era denied Rice the Test career his talent undoubtedly deserved, he finally captained his country in its historic return to international competition in 1991.
For Nottinghamshire supporters, however, his greatest legacy lies at Trent Bridge. His passion, leadership and winning mentality helped establish a culture of success that shaped the county for generations.
A magnificent cricketer, an inspirational leader and the architect of Nottinghamshire's golden era, Clive Rice will forever be remembered as one of the greatest captains in the club's history.
