Des Walker is widely regarded as one of Nottingham Forest’s greatest defenders and one of England’s most reliable centre-backs of the late 20th century. Born in Nottingham in 1965, Walker came through the Forest youth system and made his first-team debut in 1984. Known for his pace, intelligence, and uncompromising tackling, he quickly became a defensive linchpin under Brian Clough and subsequently, other managers.
Walker’s speed and reading of the game allowed him to cover vast areas, make crucial interceptions, and recover from seemingly lost situations — traits that became his hallmark.
